Going to church is just not enough.  Homeschooling is not enough.  Nightly prayers are not enough.  Reading a bible story book is not enough. These things are good but, NOT enough.  If you are a parent, God has called you to disciple and teach the gospel to your kids...DAILY!

Matthew 28: 19-20

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Why does this verse not apply to our children and our families?  We must make disciples of our children!  God must draw their hearts unto Himself but, we must continually pour the gospel into their lives.  One of the verses we cling to as a family is Deuteronomy 6:5-9.

"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gate."
I have seen so many proclaim their love for God to the masses yet, their kids have no idea who God is from how they are treated at home.  Watch tv, play a game, go outside go do anything except spend quality time digging into the Word with them.  I am guilty.  I have missed many an opportunity to show love to my kids when I am busy.  I am thankful that God gives us grace and mercy!  I am thankful that He loves us so much that He allows second, third and one thousand chances to do things right!  We are NOT pros nor do we have parenting down pat!  I honestly feel parenting is the hardest job, next to being a godly wife! Neither are easy but, I am called as a Christian.   The race is hard but, the rewards are eternal!  I want nothing more than to see my child live a life for the Lord!  I do not want to be guilty of neglecting my duty as a parent.
Start today!!  If you've not been teaching and discipling your little one, or older ones...START!!  Beg for repentance from God for not doing your best as a parent and then beg your child for forgiveness as well!  Nothing will touch their hearts like seeing their parent live for the Lord and striving to be all God has called them to be!  Start simple.  Read a Proverb a day together.  We read the chapter that coincides with the date.  Buy a devotional that they can understand.  Pray and talk with them about their day and the verses that you are going over.  I am not saying we won't mess up or that a day won't be skipped, we just cannot make that a habit!  You can do it!  It's really a choice. Try and make as common throughout the day as it is to eat or drink!  Plan your day and your lives around Him!
"Do the next right thing!"  Elisabeth Elliot
Pray and ask God to lead you! Ask Him to show you ways to teach and train your child each day.  There are so many moments during the day that we can use as a HUGE teaching moment.  Moments that God can use to reach their hearts and ours.
